001. FALCONRESS, by claudine
Hunith & Merlin | 776 words | Gen | canon, post.513, reincarnation, reunion
summary: To a mother, a child will always be a child. Cherished to her bosom, with a fierce want to protect them from all harms and hurts that the world would inflict.
comment: This was so lovely. Beautiful, stark prose that tells a lot with very few, well-chosen words. I love that it explores the love between a mother and her child as something strong enough to also transcends time. The reunion between Merlin and Hunith, far in the future, had my heart aching and I could not help but smile. I love the tiny details in this. It’s different and well worth the read.
002. IF HE’D A GOLD PIECE FOR EVERY TIME, by sorrylatenew
M/A | Teen+ | 1.6K | canon, outsider POV, jealousy
summary: It’s painful to watch them. It’s also a bit fun. And would the gods blame Gwaine - really - if he found some entertainment in it?
comment: I do enjoy outsider POVs sometimes. I love how they afford a fresher look on events and characters, allow you to explore other details and moments. And I just loved Gwaine in this, stuck a bit between Merlin and Arthur being idiots and deciding to help things along a little. I especially liked his voice, it felt different and very ‘him’ to me, I could feel the character behind it. I really enjoyed it.
001. HERE WE GO AGAIN, by sassafrasx
M/A | explicit | 1.1K | canon, first time, virginity, pwp
summary: Merlin’s first thought is how did they end up here again?
And Arthur, he looks just as wounded and desperate as he did before and Merlin really shouldn’t.
But he does.
comment: So hot. Loved a more experienced Merlin tasking himself with showing Arthur a thing or two because hey Arthur’s a prince and bastards aren’t fun, but Merlin’s a country boys and country boys know things that princes don’t. *nudge nudge wink wink*

summary: Arthur and Merlin’s relationship from childhood onwards.
comment: I loved the world in this: a slightly different Camelot where Arthur and Merlin grow up together, where magic isn’t exactly loved, but not outlawed either. I liked Arthur’s brashness, his princely arrogance so fitting when so young that slowly mellowed out as he grew up. I thought this was quite lovely.

Arthur’s not sure if what he wants is wrong or if it’s the wanting itself that’s wrong.
As always, Merlin complicates everything.
Wonderfully achy. My heart felt so much and hurt so much for Arthur. There’s this whole tension through most of the fic of Arthur growing up and internalizing all his feelings and how wrong he thinks they are, how he cannot have what he wants, and how it gets even more tangled up in his sense of duty, his royal status. The pining is almost painful (in a good way)
It’s tightly written with good pacing, and therefore even more satisfying when things finally unfold and Arthur lets go.

(part 1) In the not so distant future, Merlin builds a tower. That’s not suspicious at all. (part 2) Prequel to Job Orientation. Before anyone built towers or became kings that hide from councils or thought five hundred steps was some kind of actual challenge, there was a prince, a sorcerer, and a sea serpent in a river. But really, it started well before that. Because first, there was a prince, and silence, and a secret that was no secret at all.
I just adore seperis’ fics and I REALLY recommend this series. The first part is perfect in its domesticity and banter and just them being idiots (and yay, for Merlin being court sorcerer and Arthur running away from his council duties to get cozy with him). The prequel is a gorgeously written get-together full of everything I love about this pairing, full of pining, and protectiveness, and a magic reveal and the ending is so *sigh*. Look, I read this a long time ago and forgot to make the rec, but it’s beautiful and you should read it *nods*
here are some fics where Arthur’s protective when Merlin gets in trouble with a knight/noble/etc.

Death is not really what Arthur expected. For one, there’s a lot more questing and magic and responsibility than he had been lead to believe. Not to mention that death seems to be a relative term.
Then again, apparently there are still many secrets about himself left to uncover.
(partly from my comment to the author)
omg I looooved this. There are too few fics that take advantage of all the legends and all the mythology of the British/Irish isles. And I just LOVE that the author bits and pieces from different myths and mixed them with the show’s canon to create their own. I think it’s brilliant.
This is a quest fic set in Avalon, with gods, and goddesses and fairies. It was such a nice change, so refreshing and new. I’m such a big fan of Arthur & Freya as well, so the first few scenes with them were absolutely delightful to have. I love that in all the chaos and strangeness of Avalon (with its hints of fairyland; with the passage of time being different, the food and the dance leading people astray etc), it’s the memory of Merlin that keeps Arthur grounded, keeps him on the path.
I love how the author played with the idea of their destiny and their Golden Age and how they made it something else entirely than what is usually expected. Add the little detail about Arthur’s mother (and his own magic) and I’m just in love with all the ideas in this fic. I don’t want to spoil it, but I absolutely loved the ending as well. It’s such an original fix-it fic.

Kings, even new ones, were not supposed to long for their menservants. They shouldn’t let their eyes linger on their wrists, the plump of their lips, or the shape of their thighs. Arthur knew this, but he still wanted. There was nothing about Merlin he didn’t want.
So. much. pining. So delicious. It aches so good (I had tears in my eyes at one point from how the sheer longing) and then it’s beautiful. Ugh, I loved this. I loooved that it explored Arthur’s difficulties in stepping into his role as King, mixed with his intense feelings for Merlin. I loved how the story unfolded, I loved the choices the author made, the hot sex, and the resolution that feels more like a beginning. I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS STORY. It’s hard to keep this brief. READ IT.

Arthur and Morgana’s relationship through the years.
I’ve been wanting to start reading more Arthur/Morgana fics lately (because I love them SO much) and what do you know, today I get a neat little email letting me know that giselleslash posted one. So I figured it was a sign.
AND OMG. MY. FEELINGS. LET ME SHOW YOU ALL MY PENDRAGON SIBLINGS FEELS I HAVE A LOT. The thing about this pairing—especially in canon, from a romantic angle or not—is that it’s so tragic. The fic takes Arthur and Morgana from when they are five years old to their (canon) deaths. And it hurts, and it’s beautiful too. I especially loved the parts when they were young, before Merlin, before the terrible secret of Morgana’s true parentage, it was bright and intense like only young love can be it seems, and therefore all the more painful afterwards. I loved the intensity of their bond and love. The last line really punched me, tying together with the beginning of the fic and completing their story.
And now I need more.

She knows, distantly, that it’s been over half a millennium, not just a few years, since they last saw Merlin. It’s only been a few years for her, though (and for Arthur), short enough that grief sometimes still startles her, long enough that she clutches her memories to her like rags against a blizzard, dreading the day when they wear through completely.
This is one of my favourites. Seriously, even if you’re not into Arthur/Freya I’d recommend it because it’s a lot about Arthur dealing after his death, in Avalon, and it’s about his love for Merlin, and Freya’s love for Merlin, but it’s also about coping and companionship and love. I’m in love with the Freya in this too, powerful and not scared anymore, strong. It’s so beautifully told, powerful and both vibrant and dreamlike in a way, if that makes sense. Highly recommended, give it a chance, it’s not even 2K :P

"It figures that even as a dog, you’d be a prat." Arthur gets turned into a dog, and is the worst pet Merlin’s ever had, despite being completely adorable. Or something like that. There might be some plot, I’m not entirely sure.
Absolutely adorable and entertaining, often hilarious, fic. It definitely sells itself short and isn’t as silly as the summary might suggest. It has post-series one characterizations that are really well done, (especially Arthur and even when he’s a dog), dead on when it comes to Merlin’s utter devotion to him, and my favourite kind of magic reveal. I really really enjoyed it.
